Week of February 21st, 2012
I hope everyone enjoyed the winter break and the beautiful weather!
Math – We will be continuing to practice fact families and learning how to use the addition and subtraction facts table.
Reading – Our new story is called, “Ruby in Her Own Time”. We will be focusing on what we learn as we grow and change. We will be practicing words with the ng and nk endings and compound words.

Writing – We will practice writing complete sentences and adding details to our writing as we work on personal narratives.

Week of February 13th, 2012
I hope everyone is having a great weekend. Just a reminder, that there is no school this Thursday and Friday. I hope everyone enjoys the winter break!
Math – We will be continuing to practice fact families and learning how to use the addition and subtraction facts table.
Reading – Since it is only a three day week, we will not be starting a new story. We will be reviewing letter patterns, sight words, and reading concepts from our previous stories. We will also be reading some fun stories about Valentine’s Day!
There are no new sight words or spelling words this week.
Writing – We will be writing friendly letters.

Week of February 6th, 2012
I hope you all enjoyed the beautiful weather today! Thanks to everyone who came in for conferences last week. I am looking forward to meeting with many of you that signed up for conferences this Tuesday!
Math – This week we will complete unit five. We will also be starting unit six with our focus on fact families and learning how to use the addition and subtraction facts table.
Reading – We will be starting a new unit this week which will discuss the changes in our world. Our first story, “A Place to Play” is about how places change. We will be practicing the long i sound and the long e sound spelled with the letter y.

Reading – Our story this week is called, “Honey Bees”. We will be focusing on the long e sound spelled ee. We will also be focusing on nouns in sentences. We will be discussing how insect communities are like communities of people.

We had a great start to the New Year! Everyone worked hard and did a super job following directions and classroom procedures!
Math – This week we will be completing our unit on measuring and telling time and we will begin our new unit which will focus on place value.
Reading – We will be discussing who works to make our community a nice place. We will be working on words that have the long i sound and words that have the blends wh, ch, tch, and ph.

Math – This week we will continue to work on unit four which focuses on measuring and telling time to the quarter-hour.
Reading – We will be discussing communities and families. We will be working on words that have the long a sound, words with the s sound spelled with a c, and words with the j sound spelled with a g. Our story this week will be “The Farmer in the Hat”.

Week of December 19th, 2011
We are looking forward to a very busy week! We will be working on our regular curriculum along with some holiday activities. Our holiday party will be on Friday at 1:50. Please contact Mrs. Edgington or Mrs. Burcham if you have any questions or if you would like to help. I am aware that many families have busy evening schedules so there will not be any homework this week.

Week of December 12th, 2011
We are heading into another exciting week for first grade. On Wednesday, we will be going to the Santa Shop so students can purchase gifts for their families. Please fill out the envelope that was sent home so we can assist your child in buying gifts. Also, thanks to all of your support our class won the Marco’s fundraiser and we will be having a pizza party on this Friday the 16th.
Math – This week we will continue to work on unit four which focuses on measuring and telling time to the quarter-hour.
Reading – We will start a new story, “AnimalPark”. We will be focusing on words with the short u sound and words that end with consonant blends.
